Super Bowl LV game under Indelec Prevectron protection
US sport most awaited event is just around the corner ! On Feb 7, 2021, the Super Bowl LV will see the Kansas city Chiefs defending their 2020 title against the Buccaneers, Tampa team playing in front of their home crowd in their Raymond James stadium with the superstar Tom Brady !
The “Ray Jay” stadium construction started on September 3, 1996 and housed his first NFL game two years later on Sept 1998. It has been designed by HOK Sport. It is considered to offer the best lawn of the league and its most recognizable feature is a 103-foot (31 m), 43-ton steel-and-concrete replica pirate ship in the north end zone. Each time the Buccaneers score points or win a home game, the replica cannons on the ship are fired off.
It can welcome 65,857 spectators, up to 75,000 to temporarily accommodate larger crowds for Super Bowl games (this will be the 3rd Super Bowl in Raymond James stadium) or concerts (72,000 persons in 2009 for U2 concert). Still, due to the covid-19 pandemic, the Super Bowl LV attendance will be limited to 25,000 persons accompanied by 30,000 cardboard silhouettes: 55,000 seats will be occupied.
Providing safety and comfort for such large venues requires specific equipment: oversized sanitation, air conditioning, lighting, secured accesses, videoboards, and a reliable lightning protection system. Florida stands amongst the world most lightning prone areas. Protecting such massive structure is a real engineering challenge: a lightning strike could be lethal and trigger deadly panic movements. The French advanced lightning rods Prevectron have been selected and installed by our specialized US partner.
Let’s wish football lovers a fantastic Super Bowl LV game! Besides the show on the lawn and the stage, try to spot the Prevectron lightning rods above the videoboards and the projectors.
