Industrial key player in Brazil pleases with its Prevectron lightning protection system
Usiminas is one of the largest producers of steel in the Americas, with major steel mills in Brazil with a total capacity of 9.5 million metric tons of steel per year. The company accounts for 28% of total steel output in Brazil. This major industrial player is using Prevectron Early Streamer Emission lightning rods with 17 units installed on their main site in Minas Gerais state.
According to Mr Marcelo de Cabral Araujo, Maintenance Supervisor, the site has been safely protected against lightning : “Since Prevectron lightning rods were installed on our plant in December 2017, we have witnessed two lightning strokes, that our lightning counter managed to keep record. One of these captors was installed on the parking lot and the other one on the main building of the factory, where two people were working within a 20m distance, while it was not raining already. Since then, the feeling of safety increased considerably, mainly in open áreas, protecting people, risky installations (inflammable materials warehouse), aerial lines, etc…”
Due to its dimensions and the lightning prone area of Usiminas site, a safe system is a priority for the company management to provide its employees with the highest level of safety as well as maintain the continuity of service.
That is also a new example of the Prevectron lightning rods performances and reliability, installed in very challenging environment.
