OVH is a French cloud computing company which offers VPS, dedicated servers and other web services. As of 2016 OVH owned the world’s largest data center in surface area.
As of 2019, it was the largest hosting provider in Europe, and the third largest in the world based on physical servers.
The company was founded in 1999 by the Klaba family and is headquartered in Roubaix, France.
In 2019 OVH adopted OVHcloud as its public brand name.
OVH Cloud operates 12 sites in the world, employing 2 200 workers. It manages 31 datacenters located in Europe, America and Asia regions, gathering 400 000 servers and more than 1.5 million clients worldwide.
Technical specifications for such sites are extremely detailed and demanding. Indelec advanced lightning risk management and Prevectron unequaled reliability met such requirements.
OVHCloud Roubaix4 new datacenter is equipped with the latest generation of Prevectron3 Early Streamer Emission lightning rods. The Connect models provide OVHCloud maintenance team with a 24/24 access to each lightning air terminal. Engineers can monitor in real time these data together with other sensitive equipment such as power supply and servers cooling systems.
Indelec engineering team designed a specific isolated lightning protection system in order to limit the electromagnetic radiations in case of lightning discharge : the Prevectron3 Connect lightning rods are mounted on isolated self-standing high poles, away from the buildings : during a thunderstorm, buildings are protected from direct lightning discharge and the lightning current (several thousands of Amperes) will be safely conducted to earthing terminations far away from the servers.
Lastly, specific attention has been paid to low resistant earthing pit (less than 5 ohms) and equipotential bonding of all the metallic structures on site.
