Indelec hosts the mining lamp used for Paris 2024 Olympic Games
Attached to our Douais roots and the mining tradition associated with it, we have decided to support the Lewarde historic mining center, and become a patron of it.
As such, we will be hosting for 3 days this week (November 6,7 and 8, 2024) a mine lamp used to transport the flame during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The press has widely reported on this solution to preserve the flame during its long journey from the Olympia sanctuary in Greece on April 16, 2024 before reaching Marseille aboard the Belem and then crisscrossing French territory. The safety mine lamps, designed to withstand the extreme conditions at the bottom of the ocean, made it possible to transport the Olympic flame by plane or boat, or to keep it safely lit during the “dead” times between torch relays.
This unique object is currently on display in the entrance hall of Indelec‘s Douai headquarters, for the exclusive enjoyment of all our teams. We will then have the honor of presenting this lamp to the director of the Lewarde Mining History Center, who will be exhibiting it on the occasion of its 40th anniversary!
The lamp for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will demonstrate to the public that innovations and know-how from the mine have other, sometimes prestigious, uses.
