Photovoltaic production has been doubling every 2 years, increasing by an average of 48 percent each year since 2002, making it the world’s fastest-growing energy technology. According to the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA), 6.4GW of newly installed capacity was achieved in 2009, reaching a total capacity of over 20GW worldwide.

Roughly 90% of this generating capacity consists of grid-tied electrical systems.

INDELEC technical presentation deals with all the aspects of an efficient lightning protection system, conforming with international and French standards specifically related to PVs installations:
–       The direct lightning protection rod and earthing
–       Equipotential grounding of the installation
–       DC current Surge Protection Devices.
–       AC Current Surge Protection Devices.

Based on these specifications and requirements, the solar panel installation can be safely protected from lightning damages. A proper maintenance of the panels as well as periodic checking of the LPS and SPD conditions is then recommended to ensure a long lasting installation and a fruitful Return on Investment (calculated on long period of 10 to 25 years).
